GOLDEN - CROWNED THRUSH . OVEN - BIRD . Olive . green ; crown , golden - brown ; beneath , cream - white , spotted with brown . Length , 2 - 6 1 - 2 inches . - Commun summer resident . Earliest arrival , May 7th ; departs in Sept . or October . Raises 2 broods . Eggs 4 - 5 , white , spotted with brown . Nest of leaves , twigs , grass , hair , etc . , on the ground in damp woods ; it is completely arched over , the entrance for the bird being in the side . Eggs laid in June and July . Feeds on insects . Beneficial . A charming sivger , its song being loud and clearly chanted .
