Grassy woodland edges, gardens, city parks, brushy pastures, and lawns.
Nest Materials
Nest composed of loose, dried grasses, stalks, and rootlets, and lined with animal hair and fine plant fibers

CHIPPING SPARROW . CHIPPIE . Crown , chestnut ; back , streaked with black , bay and grayish - brown ; beneath , ashy . Length , 5 - 5 1 - 2 inches . Abundant summer resident . Earliest arrival , March 3d , ( Stearns ) ; departs in November . Raises 2 broods . Eggs 3 - 5 , greenish - blue , spotted and streaked with blackish - brown . Nest of grass , small stalks of weeds , etc . , and lined with hair , in trees and shrubs . Eggs laid from May to July . Feeds on seeds , insects and worms . Beneficial . Note , a short , sweet chirp .
